THE “CALLEJONEADA“
The Callejoneadas began to be part of the weddings in San Miguel about 20 years ago. The custom marks that they can be celebrated the night before the wedding or the same day, at the end of the ceremony. They are fun tours of the alleys and historical points of the city led by a tequila burrito, adorned with flowers, and a Estudiantina, Mariachi or Musical Band that is responsible for putting all the participants of the Callejoneada to dance along the way while they are tasting a good mezcal or tequila in the traditional clay jars of the region.
MOJIGANGAS
Another important part of the Callejoneada are the Mojigangas. These are giant sculptures that are customized to represent the bride and groom. The head and bust are made of cardboard and papier-mâché and then mounted on a structure that gives them their height of 2 to 6 meters.
It is these sculptures that transform the tour into a true walking festival, astonishing the guests and leaving incredible photos to remember. They are created in great detail and always seek to replicate the most representative details of both members of the couple.
